Toni and Lee’s Intimate Surrey Wedding by Myriame Lawley Photography

There’s something incredibly special about small weddings – they carry a kind of quiet magic that’s all about love, laughter, and genuine connection. That was certainly the case for this beautiful wedding at the charming Voco Lythe Hill Hotel in Haslemere. It was just the couple, Toni & Lee and their two best friends, Claire & Glen, yet the day was bursting with joy, warmth, and emotion.

As a Surrey wedding photographer, I’m always drawn to weddings that tell a real story – and this one was all about connection. No distractions, no big crowds – just meaningful moments, captured naturally. My style as a documentary wedding photographer meant I could blend into the background and photograph the day as it unfolded, without any awkward posing or fuss.  I had the privilege of capturing each moment as it naturally unfolded – from the groom’s confident pose in the gardens to the emotional exchange of rings by the roaring fire. The intimacy of the occasion allowed me to step back and let the real story shine through: no fuss, no pressure, just two people deeply in love.

The wedding ceremony took place in one of Voco Lythe Hill’s cosy, character-filled rooms, complete with wood-panelled walls, flickering candlelight, and a backdrop of wild florals. The bride looked radiant in a sleek white gown, and her bouquet of red and cream roses perfectly matched the groom’s button hole.

After the “I dos,” we stepped outside into the spring sunshine for a stroll around Lythe Hill’s picturesque grounds. With champagne in hand and big smiles on their faces, the couple were so at ease – exactly how a wedding day should feel. These are the kind of candid moments I love to document – real emotion, real joy.  We took loads of photos before going back to cut the cake and have a few more photos, before leaving them to enjoy the rest of their afternoon.

Toni & Lee’s Love Story in Their Words

How did you choose your venue and what made this your ideal venue?

“We’d visited Voco Lythe Hill before and simply loved it. The atmosphere, the setting – it all just felt right.”

Nestled in the rolling Surrey hills, Voco Lythe Hill in Chiddingfold, has a historic charm with modern luxury – perfect for couples seeking a serene, stylish wedding space to say “I do.” As a Haslemere wedding photographer, it’s one of those places I always love returning to.

What part of the wedding process were you most excited about?

“All of it.”

Simple, honest, and joyful – much like their wedding day itself.

Please tell me about your proposal, who proposed, where and how?

Lee proposed during a weekend getaway to celebrate his 50th birthday – a moment filled with love, laughter, and joyful tears. Their wedding date held even more significance: it fell just before Easter, a nod to their very first date on Good Friday four years ago.

How long did it take you to find the dress of your dreams? Any tips you can offer other brides?

“I found it really difficult to find an affordable wedding gown and had lots of issues ordering online. I’d definitely recommend trying wedding dresses on in person if you can – it makes a big difference.”

Real, honest advice from a bride who’s been through the journey – and come out glowing on the other side.

Tell me about your wedding suites and colour theme

“Navy blue suits with burgundy ties – which tied in with other little details throughout the day.”

Elegant, rich tones that paired beautifully with the classic surroundings of Voco Hill, hotel, near Haslemere.

How did you personalise your wedding day?

“It was just us and our two witnesses. Very intimate – and absolutely perfect.”

No fuss, no crowd – just two people promising forever, surrounded by peace and love. As a female wedding photographer specialising in documentary wedding photography, these are the moments I live to capture: unscripted, heartfelt, and profoundly real.

What is your favourite image from your wedding gallery and why?

“There are so many beautiful images capturing the fun and laughter of our day – it’s impossible to choose just one.”

That’s the joy of a documentary approach: every image becomes part of your story, full of feeling and truth.

What advice would you give newly engaged couples in planning for their wedding?

“Focus on you and what you want. Don’t let it become about everyone else.”

Timeless advice that rings true for every couple planning their wedding day. Keep it personal, keep it meaningful.
