A Spring Wedding Full of Joy at New Place Hotel, Southampton

It was a gloriously sunny May day when these two said “I do” at the stunning New Place Hotel in Southampton. With its elegant manor house steeped in history, beautiful gardens bursting into bloom, and a dedicated reception space just for them, the couple knew they’d found the perfect all-in-one wedding venue—and it was only ten minutes from home!  This is where we met Josh & Karina during one of the PMN Wedding Fayres at which we always exhibit.  We love photographing weddings at New Place Hotel, it’s one of my favourite Hampshire wedding venues.

A Warm and Welcoming Start

The day began in the gorgeous getting-ready suite, full of laughter and excitement as the bridal party gathered. Matching floral crowns and pastel dresses added a springtime feel, while the atmosphere was a mix of nerves and happiness. The bride’s relaxed but emotional first look with her father was a tender moment—his face said it all as he saw his daughter in her beautiful wedding gown for the first time.  As was the look from the bridesmaids and close friends who had gathered by the door to take a first look.  The look of delight on their faces is priceless.  Karina’s bracelet had once belonged to her grandmother and had been gifted by her grandfather who looked on with pride when he saw Karina and the bracelet.

A Ceremony Filled With Happy Tears

Set inside the historic manor house, the ceremony was simple and heartfelt. The bride and groom beamed as they exchanged vows, surrounded by their nearest and dearest. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room when they shared their first kiss—cue the applause and big grins all round!

After the ceremony, the newlyweds were showered in confetti under the shade of the stately gates, with sunlight streaming through the trees. It was one of those perfect English spring moments, full of colour and light.

Personal Touches and Family Connections

One of the bride’s favourite touches was a wedding photo family tree, lovingly displayed on the table at the wedding breakfast. It featured wedding photos from their parents’ and grandparents’ marriages—a subtle but beautiful way to honour the legacy of love in their lives.  Karina especially asked for a photo to be taken just like the one on the family tree, so this photo in time would be added to the tree.

Golden Hour, Dancing, and Magic

As the golden evening light crept into the gardens, we stole a few quiet moments for bride and groom portraits. The couple’s chemistry was effortless, and their happiness shone through every frame.  They wanted a private spot in the garden to read each other vows they had written but were not part of the wedding ceremony.  We photographed from a distance and caught the most wonderful image of the two of them deep in conversation.

Later, under fairy-lit drapes, the dance floor came alive. The bride’s lift into the air during the dancing drew cheers from the crowd—it was the perfect combination of joy and celebration.

Final Thoughts

As a documentary wedding photographer in Southampton, it was such a joy to capture this relaxed, love-filled day from start to finish. With family at the heart of it all, it was a true celebration of connection, laughter, and memories made together.  The majority of our wedding images are candid, documentary style, with only the group and couple photos being posed.

Karina left such a lovely Google review, it was such a joy to be part of their fabulous day:

Highly recommend Myriame! We first met her at a wedding fayre and she stood out as being so kind, calm and attentive! Myriame is very responsive to questions and highly knowledgeable. We met with her before the wedding to have a little photoshoot to get comfortable with her and the camera, which was great for us as both very nervous and camera shy! On the day Myriame was absolutely amazing at keeping us calm and gently directing us to get the best photos. We felt very comfortable with her and she was very adaptable when we got a little overwhelmed towards the end. Myriame made sure we had some beautiful photos and managed to capture some lovely candid family moments also. These amazing photos we will treasure. Thank you Myriame x

Here is their love story in Karina’s words:

How did you choose your venue and what made this your ideal venue?

We wanted a Hampshire wedding venue that we could have both the ceremony and reception in one place. It was also important to us that it had a hotel near or attached for our families. We met New Place Hotel at a wedding fayre and they had everything we were looking for and only 10 minutes from our house! We loved that it had a manor house with history dating back to 1906, beautiful maintained gardens, a hotel and separate building just for us for the reception. We also realised after we went to visit the venue that a few of our friends and colleagues had been married there so we knew we were in safe hands with them.

What part of the wedding process were you most excited about?

Inviting our friends and families! We discussed the potential to have a small wedding with just immediate family at a little venue when we first got engaged, but the more we thought about it the more we wanted to invite all our cousins and aunts and uncles and friends to share this special day. We were so excited that we had cousins coming from Canada, Australia and from the north of England driving all the way to our little Hampshire village. Once we knew that we were full steam ahead with the planning and ensured we had Myriame as our wonderful wedding photographer and set out thinking of ways to ensure all our guests felt special and thought of. One of my favourite aspects was that we a photo family tree of all the weddings that made us, our parents and grandparents wedding days. It was nice touch to ensure our grandparents were smiling with us on the day.

Please tell me about your proposal, who proposed, where and how?

The proposal was super sweet! We went on a long planned trip to Florence together, the food, architecture and history created the perfect back drop for a promise that would shape our future lives together.

Did your wedding date have any special meaning to you?

We choose 2nd May 2025 as our date as we love spring time and it also meant that the following Monday was the bank holiday so all those that had travelled far to join us still had another day of rest before getting back to the everyday. We also secretly liked that the date was 2.5.25 so easy to remember.

How long did it take you to find the dress of your dreams? Any tips you can offer other brides?

I was lucky that I had an idea of what I would like so I could say to the assistant what I would like the dress to have and we went from there. I did try some of the dresses that I wasn’t too sure about style wise, just to be able to feel the difference and check that I didn’t have a change of heart. I personally went dress shopping alone as I just wanted to really listen to my body, around what felt comfortable for me and what suited my personality. It was then such a lovely surprise for my friends and family to see me all dressed up. Everyone loved the dress and I felt so special on the day to have such a beautiful wedding gown. My advice would be to ensure you love your wedding dress and everyone else will love it too because if you are so happy in it you will be glowing!

Tell me about your wedding suites and colour theme

We went suit shopping together as he wanted quite a specific suit. He was looking for a green suit with a little pattern that was light in fabric but still had the wow factor. Our theme for the wedding was spring colours so we though green would go really nicely. He ended up choosing a darker green suit with a check pattern and it suited him so well. It was quite unexpected by guests but they all thought he looked great!

How did you personalise your wedding day?

I wanted everyone attending the wedding to feel that they had really been thought of and had everything they needed. We went for garden games for the children, personalised activity books for them during the meal and sparklers for them to play with the adults for the evening. Our families were really involved so my Dad gave me away, my step mum held my bouquet and fluffed the dress during the ceremony, my brother signed as witness and I mentioned our grandparents in our speech. My father in law was our best man and give us the rings and did a speech, my future mother in law helped me into my dress in the morning and my sister in law was our other witness.

What song did you choose for your first dance and why?

Our song was somewhat unusual but its a song that I had loved for a long time and when I really listened to the lyrics it just felt perfect. The melody was also slow but not sad. One of the things we both noted at the beginning of our relationship was just how easy it was to be around each other, the relaxed comfort and how we just felt complete. Our song choice was by Theory of a Deadman – ‘Easy to love you’. Some lyrics include: “It’s easy to love you So easy to love you You know it’s true The best part of being with you To know you’re with me It’s not so hard to say It’s easy to love you”

What is your favourite image from your wedding gallery and why?

Gosh there are so many that we love! I wanted to ensure for our group photos that we included all the little family groups so that we had a picture with all the cousin groups, aunts and uncles, friendship groups and grandparents. These are very special to me! I love the more candid photos also because you can really feel everyone’s smiles and a few happy tears! The group photo on the lawn capturing everyone in a single picture was unexpected but lovely to look back on.

What advice would you give newly engaged couples in planning for their wedding?

There really is so much to consider but try to ensure it still feels like you, do not feel forced to go larger than you feel comfortable with. There are lots of extras you can do but most people will love to be there on the day because they love you. A good bit of advice for on the day is that if things don’t go exactly to the plan in your vision, it doesn’t matter because most guests won’t know the plan so will be none the wiser! Being organised definitely helps so give yourselves plenty of time to contact vendors and attend wedding fayres so you can see lots of options.
